Legal

The Church of Consciousness (CofCon) operates as a Nonprofit Corporation under the protections of Section 508(c)(1)(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. This designation solidifies our status as a recognized religious organization with the following protections:

  1. Tax-Exempt Status: As a 508(c)(1)(a) entity, CofCon is automatically exempt from federal income tax. This includes all tithes, offerings, and contributions, which are treated as sacred gifts supporting our spiritual mission.
  2. Constitutional Rights: Our designation aligns with the First Amendment, ensuring that our religious practices, sacraments, and gatherings are legally protected as expressions of spiritual freedom.
  3. Non-Governmental Oversight: Unlike other nonprofit structures, we are not subject to certain reporting requirements. This allows us to focus entirely on our spiritual mission without unnecessary interference.

This legal framework empowers CofCon to act in alignment with its divine purpose while maintaining full compliance with applicable laws.

Sacramental Practices

At the Church of Consciousness, sacraments are at the heart of our spiritual practice. We believe that plant medicines are sacred gifts from creation, bestowed upon humanity to facilitate healing, introspection, and a deeper connection with the divine. These sacraments are offered with reverence, intention, and within the framework of our spiritual mission.

Plant Medicines as Sacred Tools

CofCon honors the use of any and all plant medicines as sacraments, recognizing their profound ability to support spiritual growth and consciousness expansion. Whether through ceremonial use or guided personal journeys, these sacred substances serve as tools to deepen our connection to self, spirit, and the collective. Each sacrament is approached with the utmost respect and care, ensuring that participants engage in a safe, supportive, and intentional environment.

Our offerings include but are not limited to:

  • Sacred Plant Medicines: Including cannabis, psychedelic mushrooms, ayahuasca, cacao, kava, blue lotus, hape, and more.
  • Integration Support: Guidance is provided to help participants prepare for and integrate their experiences, fostering long-term spiritual and personal growth.
  • Ceremonial Gatherings: Led by experienced guides, our ceremonies are designed to create sacred spaces for transformation and divine connection.

Spiritual and Legal Alignment

Our sacramental practices are fully protected under the First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). By framing these practices within the context of our spiritual mission, we ensure their alignment with both federal law and the sacred traditions they honor.

Participation in our sacramental ceremonies is considered a spiritual act and is reserved for members of the Church of Consciousness. Membership is open to those who resonate with our mission and values, and it aligns participants with the spiritual protections of our 508(c)(1)(a) status.

Commitment to Safety and Education

CofCon is committed to ensuring that all sacramental practices are conducted with the highest levels of care, safety, and education. This includes:

  • Informed Consent: All participants are educated about the purpose, potential effects, and safe use of each sacrament before engaging.
  • Intentional Settings: Ceremonies are conducted in spaces designed to support healing, reflection, and spiritual growth.
  • Experienced Guidance: Our guides and facilitators are well-versed in the traditions and practices of plant medicine work, ensuring participants receive compassionate and knowledgeable support.

Through these sacraments, CofCon continues its mission of empowering individuals on their spiritual journey, fostering conscious evolution, and honoring the divine gifts of creation.

Compliance and Accountability

The Church of Consciousness operates with transparency and accountability, adhering to local, state, and federal laws. Our practices are designed to ensure:

  • Education and Consent: All participants are fully informed of the nature and purpose of our sacraments and ceremonies before engaging.
  • Safe Practices: We adhere to strict safety guidelines to protect the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of all participants.
  • Respect for Legal Boundaries: CofCon’s activities are conducted within the bounds of U.S. law, ensuring that our spiritual mission is always in alignment with legal standards.
